Dutch Broadcaster AVROTROS unveiled their choice for Eurovision 2022, and it’s alt-pop sensation, S10! The young artist will perform in Dutch at Eurovision.
S10 (pronounced: ‘ès-ten’) is the stage name of Stien den Hollander. The 21-year-old artist shares her personal stories through song, rap and spoken word. As they are personal, she chooses to sing in Dutch. The talented artist will also perform in Dutch in Torino next year. This marks the first time since 2010 that The Netherlands will compete with a song in Dutch.
S10 signed her first record deal with label Noahs Ark at the age of 17, enabling her to record debut album Snowsniper (2019). The album won the Netherlands’ most prestigious music award: an ‘Edison’.Her second album Vlinders was released a year later, in 2020, and was followed by a sold-out tour and chart-topping singles.
During her career, S10 has achieved millions of streams and collaborations with some of the top Dutch artists. Speaking of her upcoming gig, S10 said,
‘Music is everything to me. I hope my music can bring something to other people’s lives, simply because it has done so much for me. Which is why I could almost explode with joy at the idea that I’ll be taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest this year. In front of such a massive audience, being able to do something that’s such an honour while representing the Netherlands… I think it’s absolutely wonderful.’
Speaking on behalf of the selection committee, Eric van Stade, General manager of AVROTROS said,
‘S10’s song displays guts and authenticity. While normally we don’t reveal anything at this stage beyond the artist’s name, this time I dare to make an exception. S10 remains true to herself and her unique style. This means that, having selected English-language entries for the last 11 years, we’re now sending a Dutch song to the Eurovision Song Contest. We’re sticking our necks out with this choice, which the selection committee is behind unanimously. It promises to be another very special edition for the Netherlands.’
